Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)  is a business approach that contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders. It can provide benefits to the business and employees.

For an organisation it can:

  • Help win new business and increase customer retention
  • Develop and enhance relationships with customers, suppliers and networks
  • Save money on energy and operating costs and manage risk
  • Differentiate yourself from your competitors and improve business reputation
  • Generate positive publicity and media opportunities due to media interest in ethical business activities

Employee volunteering is one aspect of CSR which provides a number of benefits:

  • Increases employee commitment and motivation as they have fun and make a difference to the environment
  • Enhances the skills of employees and self-confidence as they take on new challenges
  • Encourages team building and communication of employees as they work together on a ‘level playing field’
  • Creates beneficial publicity and networks with potential partners and clients
  • Improves business green credentials and help meet CSR objectives
