News – Tuesday, March 21st, 2017
On Monday 27th February ISEP and CCCA members came together to share their experience of running environmental management systems and to hear from experts on the latest changes to ISO 14001 and the energy management standard ISO 50001.
Lee Playford QHSE Manager at Optimum Group Services kicked the afternoon off sharing his experience of implementing ISO 14001 in the print and building services industries and highlighted the numerous business benefits realised including cost savings and improved staff morale.
The delegates then heard from Martin Baxter, Chief Policy Officer at IEMA recently appointed by ISO as head of the sub-committee on EMS development. Martin gave an overview of the key changes to ISO 14001 that reflect the move to the updated 2015 standard. Leadership, lifecycle perspective, understanding context, risks and opportunities and communication were all key themes and the delegates discussed how they would tackle these in their own organisations to ensure a smooth transition.
Finally, Martin Fry, lecturer at City University provided an update on the energy management standard ISO 50001 highlighting case studies and guidance for both large businesses and SMEs.
