COP26 Explained: Why COP matters for the KQ community

Businesses, Events – Tuesday, November 9th, 2021

The Knowledge Quarter and Camden Climate Change Alliance are co-hosting an event on COP Explained: Why COP26 Matters for the KQ Community on Thursday 11 November, 3.00pm – 4.30pm.

Four guest speakers will tackle the headline goals of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), while grounding the macroscopic scale of the negotiations in the everyday reality of the Knowledge Quarter, where people live, work and study.

The 4 COP26 goals will be considered against the questions, ‘what is at stake at COP26?’ and ‘why does it matter to us?’

  • Goal 1: Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach
  • Goal 2: Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats
  • Goal 3: Mobilise finance
  • Goal 4: Work together to deliver

The session will be chaired by Maria Nelson, Director of Innovation Practice at Digital Catapult and she will be joined by the following speakers:

  • Sowmya Parthasarathy, Urban Design Lead at Arup
  • Slaney Devlin, Somers Town Neighbourhood Forum
  • Eline Sleurink, UN Principles for Responsible Investment
  • Kristen Guida, London Climate Change Partnership

The event features as part of ‘Getting to Net Zero’ – a new series of workshops and masterclasses delivered by the Knowledge Quarter to help members understand their carbon emissions and develop strategies to do something about it.
