CCCA member Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has become the first hospital in the UK to be awarded gold by Cycling UK’s Cycle Friendly Employer Accreditation Scheme.
Some of the policies which have led to GOSH receiving the gold-standard accreditation include:
- Providing nearly 300 secure places to lock bikes on site
- Offering free bike maintenance for staff
- Supplying towels for staff who shower at work
- Providing a free trial of an e-bike service for employees
The hospital has also been actively engaging with Camden Council and Transport for London in order to make cycling routes better and safer.
Their work has been especially important in the context of the pandemic and has allowed many employees to cycle to work instead of taking public transport.
The Cycle Friendly Employer (CFE) accreditation scheme is a benchmark for workplace cycling. It allows businesses to not only demonstrate what they currently do for their staff, but to access advice, information and resources to improve provision for cycling at their workplace.
