Reducing waste is a key challenge for schools, including single-use plastics. In this section, you will learn about our support around waste audits, recycling options and other support available.
Our waste management audits are conducted on-site so that you can identify areas for further improvements and savings. We have extensive experience running waste audits in a range of settings and are able to work with you so the audit is carried out with the support of the students.
A waste audit will help you to put actions in place to ensure you are complying with the school’s duty of care. We can visit and advise on how you can maximise recycling and make any collection changes you might need.
Veolia, Camden’s waste services provider, offers services to all schools, children’s centres and higher education centres. This includes separate recycling streams such as plastic, paper, metal, glass and food waste.
They offer 40% discount on recycling and free food waste service to local authority maintained schools.
Recycling education programme for schools
Veolia (Camden’s waste contractor) offers educational activities for school children across the borough to learn more about recycling and environmental issues around waste. Activities are tailored to different age groups and have been designed to link with the National Curriculum as well as being relevant to the children’s own neighbourhood and experiences. Topics covered include
- Recycling at home and at school
- Food waste
Veolia’s education and outreach staff can work directly with teachers to prepare assemblies or a programme of workshop activities. Visits to recycling facilities can also be arranged for older children, though numbers are limited.
